Why can't a fifth of Americans locate the United States on a world map?

Americans, and not just those residing in South Carolina, are getting dumber. Years of Flavor Flav on tv*, hot dog eating contests, and college students drowning in alcohol have led to a 16% drop in our nation's intelligence. In fact,I'm surprised that 4 out of 5 were able to find the US without using Google Maps.

(Look up Miss Teen South Carolina on YouTube if this doesn't make any sense.)

This does give me a reason to use one of my favorite movie quotes of all time. From an Adam Sandler favorite, Billy Madison:

Principal: Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Billy Madison: Okay, a simple "wrong" would've done just fine.

Despite Miss Teen South Carolina's nonsense answer, she still placed 3rd or 4th in the competition. So either she scored really well in the swimsuit category or remaining 46 states need to do a better job selecting their representatives.

*While I think the Flavor of Love shows ranks among the worst shows ever on tv, I was channel surfing and caught part of The Roast of Flavor Flav on Comedy Central and am kind of ashamed to say it was pretty funny.

watching her through that question was like watching a really bad job interview.
