CBC Turkey Bowl Late Post-Game Report
Our football game was completed without any major injuries. Most had bruises, someone had a minor groin pull, my brother may have slightly dislocated his hip. I just got a bruised foot and possibly a small concussion. I didn't suffer any kind of memory loss, but I had a fat headache that lasted for several hours afterwards.
Playing football is kind of frustrating when people don't follow the play. I understand that not everyone who played understands what a seam or post route is, and not everyone knows how to play a cover 3 defense, but I'm talking about simple plays here.
Supposed to be Simple Play 1: 'WR Screen' On this play, one of the wide receivers was supposed to turn toward the quarterback as soon as the play started. The other receivers would run slightly ahead of him set a screen for him to run behind. The intended receiver was specifically told 'Don't move. Turn and catch the ball.' The play starts, and the intended reciever is off the races, streaking toward the end zone 35 yards away.
Supposed to be Simple Play 2: 'Run Right' We tried to make the plays easier to understand. I was blocking on the play, so I push my guy to the left, clearing out the right side for the runner. I look to my right and see other blockers doing the same thing. Then we see the running back get stuffed while running left. Even with my concussion, I could discern my right from my left.
Supposed to be Simple Play 3: 'QB sneak up the middle' All the QB had to do was say 'hike', take the ball and run straight ahead behind the offensive linemen. We only needed about a yard, and did not want to take any more chances with a miscommunication with a reciever or running back. Quarterback yells hike, the linemen push straight ahead (I was on the line for this play as well), and the quarterback rolls out around the left side and gets stuffed for a loss despite a delayed rush.
My side lost the CBC Turkey Bowl, but we still recieved a bid to play in the CBC Christmas Day Bowl. Maybe we can get cheerleaders like Renee (her favorite sports to participate in are golf and flag football) to be at our bowl game.
CBC Thanksgiving Golf Post-Tournament Short Report
This tournament was held at the Los Lagos Golf Course in San Jose. To sum it up, we did not play well. I know Los Lagos means 'the lakes', but it might have been better translated 'the place where environmental hazards rule and golf balls go to die.' A few of us were still feeling the effects of football from the day before. None of the eight competitors broke 100 on the poorly designed par 68 course. On the bright side, I did not break any clubs.
