I am mad today.
It is Tuesday. I am not mad that it is Tuesday. I like Tuesdays. On Tuesdays, I look forward to reading my favorite ESPN Page 2 column, Tuesday Morning Quarterback (TMQ). The column is written by Gregg Easterbrook, an author with books in the topics of theology, environmental policy, as well as football. He does a lot of political writings for journals and magazines. Gregg also has a blog. Apparently on his blog, he was critizing the movie Kill Bill and the fact that Christian or Jewish Hollywood execs have lost their moral conscience and are selling out massive violence for big bucks, or something to that effect. His original wording was a bit awkward, and this was percieved as an anti-Semitic statement by some in the Disney empire (maybe Eisner) which owns ESPN, and led to the firing of Easterbrook.
Easterbrook apologized for the wording of his statements, explaining he was not making a racist or bigoted comment. Nevertheless, he was fired because his comments were percieved to be anti-Semitic. This is what makes me mad. People can't say or write anything bad about anyone anymore. That sucks.
Easterbrook is a very intelligent writer, a church going Christian, and my number one ranked ESPN columnist (Bill Simmons aka the Sports Guy is number 2, Stacy Pressman is number 3). I hope TMQ finds a new home on the web.
Maybe I'm wrong and this guy is Hitler in disguise. I don't care!! Tuesdays is TMQ day for me!! I'm going to be mad on Tuesdays until the column returns. Or until 24 starts next week. (I'll still miss TMQ. Maybe Jack Bauer can help me out.)
