March 10, 2003

On Sunday afternoon, I played a game of softball while I was half-drunk. I made three errors in one inning, but I still managed to rally our team to a 24-17 victory in 7 innings. I also played without my orange Shinjo wristbands. When equipped with the Shinjo-mojo, my defense is at Gold Glove level.

While playing softball, some of the players got into a discussion about chivalry during co-ed sports (see Lemmyboy's blog for more details). Last Friday, I was playing basketball and I got scored on a few times by a girl. She was a few inches taller than me, so she just posted me up, turns and shoots. However, when Valentine (or Junior as he is known), who is 6'1" 280 lbs, posts up on me (2 weeks in a row, when we played, I get matched up against him. Not sure how or why, it just happens.) I can shut him down. Seriously. I do just enough pushing, swiping, and jumping to make him miss a lot more than a guy his size should. But when I guard this girl Kathleen, I can't just shove or push her like another of the guys, can I? I don't want to just let her score just because she is a girl either. I'm sure she doesn't want that either, but it seems all the other guys make a big deal of it when she gets a basket. What does this whole rant mean? I don't know. Maybe Kathleen has more skills than Valentine. Maybe I just suck at basketball. Maybe I should stop making fun of the WNBA (I won't). I'll post my thoughts on Annika playing in the PGA Tour some other time.

Following up on Shinjo, go see Hideyo's blog (heeday). He's currently doing some awesome stuff in the land of the Japanese people, also known as Japan. Hideyo lived with Jason in Berkeley, so he's my roommate's ex-roommate. We're practically brothers. I'm also playing him head to head in one of my fantasy basketball leagues. He's right on the playoff bubble as the sixth seed. I'm fighting for a first round bye.

Go see Christina's blog also (peasprouts spouts, say that five times fast). Her blog has a really good looking template. Next time you come to Richmond, Christina, we'll take you to the Empire Buffet. You can review the food there.

We are entering Week 2 of no cable at 5824. Still alive, thanks to the cable at work and DirectTV at my parents San Francisco crib. Many thanks to God for creating DVD's.
