Today in Waitangi Day in New Zealand. I only mention this because back when I was living in Berkeley, my former roommate and I would throw eggs from our balcony across Warring Ave toward the rooftop of another building to celebrate Waitangi Day. I just learned that Waitangi Day is actually a national holiday to commerate the Treaty of Waitangi signed in 1840 between the Maori people and the British empire, where the Maori 'agreed' to live under British colonialism. Not a very festive holiday for the Kiwi. Perhaps they should start some kind of egg throwing ceremony.
