HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

The Norman Lau Tour's CBC Golf Championship presented by Yahoo Fantasy Sports got rained out, so here I am awake at 8 in the morning with nowhere to go.

My New Year's Eve (why should New Year's Eve be capitalized? It doesn't deserve the same treatment as Christmas, Thanksgiving, or even Tuesday) was probably the least exciting ever. I don't really like going out to be with thousands of people just to see fireworks or watch a little ball of light creep downward. I was just going to kick it at the 'wild party' at church for a bit, then go home and get ready for golf.

But I didn't even get to the 'wild party.' In fact, I almost missed midnight altogether. On the penultimate day of 2003, I had to stay up all night with some teen boys from my center for their sleepover (unlike Michael Jackson, nobody actually slept at our slepovers), drive them home in the morning and followed that with a half day of work. I was still feeling pretty good up to about 7pm on the 31st, which was about the time I was planning to head over to SF, but I must have dozed off. The next thing I know it's the antepenultimate hour of 2003, the San Francisco Bowl is just about over and I'm tired as crap. (note: 2004 resolution is to use the words 'penultimate' and 'antepenultimate' more often)

Since the terror alert level was orange, I didn't want to be driving on the Bay Bridge so close to midnight (I probably shouldn't make fun of the orange terror alert level, but oh well...). So I stayed home and watched an Iron Chef marathon on the Food Network. Exciting, huh? You can't spell 'anti-social' without 'c-a-l' (I just noticed the word has 2 i's, but no u's). I was so caught up in the King of Iron Chef battles (the Iron Chefs went head to head) that I almost missed the ball dropping on the other TV. The final lobster battle was indeed more exciting and definitely more dramatic than seeing '2004' flash in lights. After all, they just change the 4 to a 5 and do the same thing next year. How many times will they have a King of Iron Chefs marathon on tv?
