On Monday, I played in the Bay Area Rescue Mission's Celebrity/Am Golf Tournament. I think it was rigged. Former NFL offensive lineman Bubba Paris was our celebrity host. Guess which team won the scramble-format tournament? That's right, Bubba's team.
My team consisted of my boss, Cathy, some lady from Vacaville, a chaplin from the Mission, a golf pro from Napa and me. Both the women were beginners, so our team was playing with a disadvantage. (Let me make this clear, we were at a disadvantage because they were beginners, not because they were women.) In a scramble tournament, everyone on the team hits a shot. We pick the best shot out of the five and then we all hit from that spot and keep doing this until we hole out. While most teams were picking the best out of five shots, we were basically picking the best out of three shots. We ended up with a team score of 68. Bubba's team had 3 golf pros and one of his buddies. They finished with a score of 60. We didn't win, but we didn't finish last either.
The only strange thing about the Celeb/Am Tournament was that I did not know any of the so-called 'celebrities' that attended. Bobby Aldridge? Dave Beronio? Jim Sniadecki? I will give anyone $2 if you can tell me who these are without looking them up in Google. By next year, I might be considered as one of the celebrities for the tournament.
Many thanks to all of those who sponsored me for this event. If anyone is interested in making a donation to the Bay Area Rescue Mission, please do so. Tell them I sent you and you can get a newsletter absolutely free.
